Pain is Inevitable, Suffering is Optional. – Buddhist proverb
These are important principles on our journey with Cystic Fibrosis and Multiple Sclerosis. As a family, we have learned to deal with much more than any of us ever imagined we would/could handle. None of us knows what our journey will look like tomorrow or what challenges it will hold for us.
What we do know, is that we have control over how we respond to those challenges. We will get knocked down and we will struggle with the changes our diseases bring to our lives. Then we will dust ourselves off and find a way to live with our new circumstances. We won’t waste today worrying about what challenges tomorrow might bring. We will not always welcome the challenges, but we won’t get lost in wishing for something different.
We will live in this moment. We will be present in life and watch as our journey unfolds ahead of us.
Everything is impermanent.
